Beef Lasagna - American Style

I got this recipe many many years ago. This is more American flavored Lasagna and not totally Italian which uses white sauce. Instead this recipe use cottage cheese (or can change it to ricotta cheese). Very cheesy dish but goes great with garlic bread. Enjoy.

This recipe takes time, but when you already have the meat sauce, it takes only one hour.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1/2 cup diced onion

  • 1 large Tomato can (whole)

  • 2 TBS Tomato paste

  • 1 cup red wine

  • 1 cup beef stock

  • 1 package Lasagna pasta

  • 1 cup cottage cheese (or ricotta cheese)

  • 1 package shredded cheese (pizza cheese, mozzarella etc.)

  • Salt pepper

Directions

  • Make meat sauce first. In a medium sized pot, put some oil and cook ground beef until done.
  • Add diced onion and continue to cook.
  • Add beef stock, wine, can of tomato and tomato paste and bring to boil then simmer for 40 min. Salt pepper. This is the meat sauce.
  • Cook lasagna pasta (or you can use non-boil lasagna sheets). Drain and set aside.
  • Prepare a large oven safe container and make 2 layers (sauce, pasta, cottage cheese, sauce pasta, cottage cheese, pasta and top with pizza cheese).
  • Bake in the oven for 30 min until the top is golden brown. Cool for 10 min and serve.
