Vietnamese Style Bahn Mi Sandwich

The first time I saw Vietnamese sandwich, I thought it was quite odd. For me sandwich was some kind of meat (ham, roast beef) and cheese. This one was with Tofu and Daikon pickles.

Prepare vegetable pickles in advance. See below for the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 4-6 Slices sliced pork

  • 1 tsp Honey

  • 1/2 tsp Fish sauce

  • 1 piece Deep fried tofu (sliced)

  • 3-4 leaves lettuce

  • some Thai basil (or basil) cilantro leaves mint leaves

  • some Onion or green onion (diced)

  • lime (option)

  • 2 TBS Mayonnaise and Siracha sauce mix

  • some Yellow Japanese radish pickles and carrot pickles (see the recipe below)

  • 2 Mini French Bread

Directions

  • Pork sandwich - Sauté pork slices over med heat and add onion, honey and fish sauce. Put aside.
  • Deep fried Tofu sandwich - slice deep flied tofu and sauté over med heat. Set aside.
  • Cut mini baguet in half. (toast if you like)
  • Put either pork or fried tofu, lettuce, vegetable pickles, and sauce (mayo and siracha)

Notes

  • Carrot pickles: Slice 1 small carrot and marinate in honey (1TBS) and apple cider vinegar (1/4 cup) for one day. Refrigerate. Purchase Japanese yellow radish pickle in Japanese food store. Slice about the same size as carrots.
